Born on December 16, 1979, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Niina Nia Kabesa comes from a family deeply rooted in the military. She is the daughter of the late General M’siri Ghislain Kalungwishi and Captain Lucy Kabesa, both well-respected FARDC soldiers.

Her mother was among the first-generation Kamaniola cadets trained under the Mobutu regime when the country was known as Zaire. Following the collapse of the regime, her family sought asylum in the United Kingdom, where she has since built a remarkable life of resilience, creativity, and service.

A Multifaceted Career

Now based in the London Borough of Hounslow, Kabesa works as a sessional worker with young offenders, supporting at-risk youth in the criminal justice system. Alongside this role, she has forged a dynamic entrepreneurial career spanning multiple industries:

• Leadership: She has served as Executive Director of P.A.F.F London for the past two years. She has sat on numerous Non-Executive board for over 20 years.

A Passion for Community and Advocacy.

Beyond her professional and creative endeavors, Kabesa is a dedicated mother of six children, some of whom are neurodiverse. Despite her demanding schedule, she has remained deeply committed to giving back to her community. Her voluntary roles include:

• Appropriate Adult supporting vulnerable individuals in police custody

• Court Referral Order Panelist working with young offenders

A Voice for the Voiceless

With the release of her latest book, Rising from the Ashes, Kabesa shares her deeply personal journey from war-torn DRC to the UK, shedding light on trauma, resilience, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in her homeland. She is also using her platform to raise funds for Mind, a mental health charity that has supported her through 30 years of therapy.

As a modern-day Mother Teresa, Kabesa continues to be a force for change, using her voice to uplift others and advocate for those who, like her, have faced unimaginable struggles.
