As a Congolese woman, I am proud to see this.
My love for the Leopards football team and for wearing leopard print is not simply about sport or fashion. It is rooted in my Kongo heritage, where the leopard is a powerful totem that embodies many qualities I admire and strive to live by.
The leopard represents:
1. Strength – It is powerful and capable, able to overcome challenges with determination.
2. Courage – It does not fear adversity and stands its ground when necessary.
3. Leadership – Throughout Kongo history, the leopard has been associated with authority, royalty, and noble leadership.
4. Wisdom – The leopard observes before it acts, teaching us the value of discernment and wise decision-making.
5. Patience – It waits for the right moment rather than rushing into action.
6. Resilience – It adapts to changing environments and continues to thrive despite difficulties.
7. Independence – The leopard is self-reliant and confident in its own abilities.
8. Focus – When pursuing its goal, it remains attentive and determined.
9. Strategy – Every movement is calculated, reminding us to think before we act.
10. Grace – Despite its strength, it moves with elegance, dignity, and poise.
11. Confidence – The leopard does not seek validation; its presence speaks for itself.
12. Protection – It fiercely guards its territory and those under its care.
13. Alertness – It remains aware of its surroundings and ready to respond when needed.
14. Discipline – It conserves its energy and uses it effectively.
15. Adaptability – It can survive and flourish in different circumstances.
16. Beauty – Its unique markings remind us that individuality is something to celebrate.
17. Determination – Once committed to a goal, it pursues it with persistence.
18. Dignity – The leopard carries itself with honour and self-respect.
19. Excellence – It is a symbol of mastery, skill, and high standards.
20. Legacy – For the Kongo people, the leopard connects us to our ancestors, culture, and identity.
When I support the Leopards football team or wear leopard print, I am celebrating more than a symbol. I am honouring a heritage that teaches strength without arrogance, leadership without oppression, confidence without pride, and beauty without vanity.
The leopard reminds me to walk through life with courage, wisdom, resilience, grace, and purpose, the qualities that have helped some Kongo people endure and thrive throughout history. It is not just an animal; it is a living symbol of who we are and where we come from.
Even though many Kongolese people have no clue, some of us who understand, are proud and focus.
