April the month of review - The Discipline That Sustains Revival.
Revival is not sustained by emotion alone, but by discernment. April invites us into a holy pause, a moment to review our lives in the light of God’s truth. Scripture calls us to examination, not condemnation:
“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord” (Lamentations 3:40).
Review is an act of humility that keeps revival aligned with God’s heart. Biblically, God often calls His people to remember and reassess. Israel was repeatedly instructed to look back, not to dwell in the past, but to discern God’s hand and correct their course.
Jesus Himself asked His disciples questions that forced reflection: “Who do you say that I am?” and “Do you still not understand?” Review sharpens spiritual awareness and guards against drift.
April asks honest questions:
- What has borne fruit, and what has merely consumed strength?
Jesus teaches, “By their fruit you will recognize them” (Matthew 7:16).
Fruit reveals alignment. Anything that drains life without producing righteousness, peace, or joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17) must be reconsidered. Revival is weakened when we confuse busyness with obedience. This month also emphasizes pruning.
“Every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit” (John 15:2).
Pruning is not punishment; it is preparation. God removes what hinders growth so what remains can flourish. Review allows us to partner with God in this process; adjusting habits, refining motives, and realigning priorities. Wisdom knows what to release and what to retain.
“Test everything; hold fast to what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21).
Revival endures when we are honest enough to confront what no longer serves God’s purpose and wise enough to preserve what He is blessing.
April declares this truth:
• Revival that is not reviewed will eventually be diluted.
• Revival examined in truth will grow in strength, depth, and longevity.
